Elianne: Patient finds long-term success with ESG at The Silhouette Clinic
Elianne’s journey began when she was only six or seven years old and already struggling with her weight. After graduating from high school, she went to study in France, a country where everyone is really skinny.
She felt out of place and different. “I couldn’t even go to stores without comparing myself to my peers at the University. I was not happy.”
During the Covid19 pandemic, her struggle with weight escalated. Elianne was sitting at her desk at home with no activity except for work. Her weight increased to 241 pounds. “I remember I was going to a wedding with my daughters and my husband in 2020, and I looked at myself and said, ‘You have to do something’.”
Elianne actually met Dr. Charbel when she needed an endoscopy, and she opened up to him about her struggles with weight loss. She confided in him about her perception of failure or disappointment because of the poor weight-loss results she would get with dieting or even regaining weight after dieting.
Dr. Charbel discussed medical weight loss options including medications versus various procedures. After learning about her options, Elianne took home a brochure about Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG). She researched the ESG and other options and then decided to have it done at The Silhouette Clinic.
What is ESG and why did Elianne choose this procedure? Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is a minimally invasive, outpatient, non-surgical, incision-less weight loss procedure. The endoscopist sutures the stomach from the inside to reduce its size, which results in long-lasting weight loss. The procedure is very well tolerated. The patients are not admitted to the hospital, and they return to their normal routine after a few days.
ESG is most suited for patients who were unable to achieve the desired weight loss with diet and lifestyle changes. It is also suited for patients who do not want to undergo surgery or who do not meet the criteria for traditional bariatric surgery.
The perfect candidate for ESG is a patient with a BMI between 30 and 40 who is committed to the weight loss program and willing to adapt to a healthier lifestyle.
Elianne arrived for her procedure in the morning on April 5, at the Rockville, Maryland clinic. She was home the same day. “By September, I was really skinny. I then lost another 10 pounds, and by February I had regained my self-confidence.”
“Before my procedure, I would have a pity party with myself. Now I love dressing up in the morning and going to work. I’m able to stand up in meetings and say what I have to say because I know I look good. That’s me!”
Elianne’s husband and daughters are her biggest cheerleaders. “They say, ‘Mommy we are proud of you!’ They just make me feel good.”
“I tell people who are struggling with their weight to listen to me. I came to Dr. Charbel’s office for an endoscopy with no intention of looking for a solution for my struggle with weight loss, but, I found the solution when I came here.”
“There are a lot of people like me struggling and suffering on their own, and other people who don’t realize there are options for them. The first thing I would recommend is to please call Dr. Charbel at The Silhouette Clinic. Talk to the doctor and the staff, they will answer all your questions. I really hope this works for you like it has for me.”
